Slammers Histroy

The Slammers' golf league originally started out as a softball league by a group of high school friends in Monroe, MI in 1982. There was 1 infamous softball game with an in-field pop up where the 2nd and 3rd basemen both tried to catch the ball, but instead the ball hit the 3rd baseman in the head and was caught by the 2nd baseman for an out. This infamous pop up and the "Amaretto Slammer" shot that league members did before each game is where the Slammers name originated from. The softball league ended in 1985 when it morphed into an Ultimate Frisbee league that played behind St. Mary's Academy until 1995. In 1999, the league founder, John Staso, started campaigning for the original Slammers to join him in a golf league. The Slammers began golfing on Tuesdays at River Raisin until 2008, when they were banned from playing on Tuesdays for having too much fun and were forced to golf on Thursdays instead. The following year, due to good behavior, the Slammers were allowed to move back to their original golf day, Tuesday. Today, the Slammers are still golfing at River Raisin on Tuesdays and displaying their good behavior.   Founder: John Staso President: Mark “Hi Lo” Adams Sheet Guy: Tom “Phobes” Petrangelo Treasurer: Jerry Cowell Skins Guy: Scott “Smitty” Smith
